Wisdom Teeth help...?!

Question: any suggestions for someone who just got theirs out?

Answers: any suggestions for someone who just got theirs out?

see, you made it through and lived to tell the tale!
My suggestions for you:
ICE! 20-30 minutes on, 20-30 off, first 12-16 hours post-op.
this severely reduces the risk of "puffy face" :)
-for the rest of today, only eat soft foods with nothing that can get lodged in the spaces or irritate them (e.g. DO eat soup (make sure it's not really hot though), pudding, ice cream, fluids, yogurt, scrambled eggs; DON'T eat nuts, steak, cereal, granola bars. DON'T drink through a straw for the first day. Also avoid hot food the first day because it can increase swelling and promote dry socket (which you DON'T want!)
You can return to a normal diet gradually as you start to feel better...but still, refrain from eating nuts for the first couple of days. they are just about the WORST thing after a dental procedure.
If you smoke, avoid that for the first two days
About dry socket: this is a failure of the area where the tooth was extracted from to form a blood clot...its caused by failing to ensure proper aftercare, and becomes noticeable on the 3rd to 5th day....if you have it, you'll notice a shooting pain in your jaw and often other parts of the mouth. if you do, call the dental office, etc. where you had the tooth extracted ASAP. they can do something to fix it.
tomorrow, rinse your mouth out with some salt dissolved in a glass of water, three times a day (more if you'd like).
Brush your teeth starting a day after, but be gentle and don't worry if you can't brush too well in the beginning.
Stay well rested and make sure you're still getting enough to eat.
As for painkillers, only take what you need (but be sure to take the antibiotic...you DON'T want an infection!)

That's all I got....hope it helped...it may sound like i should go to dental school, but to be honest these are just the things that any good oral surgeon will tell you.

I got four of mine removed at one go ! It is just that prick and after that you are numb ! The problems that a wisdom teeth would cause if it hasnt been removed is horrible than the few mins of pressure during extraction ! The pressure is only becoz of your tooth size .. :)

If your wisdom teeth are bothering you at all, you should see a dentist about possibly having them removed. If you wait too long the pain will become worse and you can risk infection.

I had 2 impacted wisdom removed several years again and all went well.

If they are not bothering you then you than don't worry about the wisdom teeth as long as they are not crowded your other teeth.

Just my 2 cents.

For someone who just got theirs removed, I suggest taking an over the counter pain reliever like ibuprofen or advil (unless the dentist gave you a prescription) and if you have swelling, you can use an ice pack on your jaw for the first 24 hrs... 30 min on and 30 min off. After that you can use a warm washcloth (up to 30 min at a time) for the discomfort. Those are the instructions we give people in our office. It should start to feel better after a few days!

i had all of my wisdom teeth taken out at one time and also 4 more teeth. i have braces and before i could get them i had to have surgery to remove all the teeth because they were too crowded.

ok starting out they give you the gas or shot. i had the gas. the gas makes you go limp like there are no nerves in your body at all. then you lay in a chair for several hours and all you feel is pressure. no pain.

your mouth will bleed so keep plenty of guaze and if it keeps bleeding on the second day then you need to put a wet tea bag in your mouth. one the first day take an ice pack and keep it on one side of your mouth for 20 minutes then switch. you keep switching back and forth for a few hours and your mouth will be numb lol.

take your medicine exactly like you are supposed to because you will be so glad you did! DO NOT DRINK ANYTHING WITH A STRAW!!! it will cause air pockets to form and those hurt worse than your teeth getting pulled.

some people are different so it depends on how your swelling will be.

on the second day you can start with applesauce and soup. milkshakes.....(eat with spoon). things like that.

wisdom teeth are not as bad as everyone thinks so dont get scared or worried! you will be fine!!!
