Answers:

Not particularly sure how they keep the awkard teeth (that you can't reach) clean. However, having them fitted is totally and utterly painless. It is the afterwards that will/can hurt. It is obviously because the teeth are having new pressure applied to them, and you aren't used to them anyway. It isn't a sharp pain, it is just a dull annoying pain, this will last a few days (it lasted 4 days for me). The teeth will be tender as well, so tell her to keep to soft foods. I lived off Chilli Con Carne and Soup for those 2 days. After those 4 days I was fine and could eat everything as normal.

I don't know about being worse after treatment, my treatment is no where near completed yet but it would seem silly (I guess if the ortho wasn't all that good, it could become worse.)

I do know someone who had braces for 2 years, and then a permemant metal wire applied to her teeth. The wire wasn't fitted correctly and within a month the teeth were starting to move back to their original braces. She recently had braces put back on, under a DIFFERENT ortho and has been told she will have them for 6 months or so to correct the problem. So keeping that in mind I guess it can only become worse if the ortho isn't that good.

Try not to worry, tell your daughter to keep the eye on the end result.

As for idiots, yes there will be people who like to crack jokes. I had the same for the first two weeks at my school. I've left school now (for study leave) and haven't seen those idiots since. I don't have anything to suggest except telling your daughter to forget about them. The idiots who took the mick out of me for the first few weeks, are idiots who won't get anywhere in life, they did not work in school at all. I can only assume it will be the same type of people. Saying that, people may just accept her and see she is trying to sort out her teeth so they are completely straight.
