Im getting braces and im wodering....?!
Question: hi,
im suposivly getting braces soon and i need a little help. the paper we got from the orthadentist in may/07 says:
we will need two appointments:
the first is 45 min. to take the records
1-2 weeks following a treatment planning consultation of 30min
the fee for the upcoming diagnostic record is 315$ inclusive
what does that mean? like to take records what is that and planning consultation? is the braces 30mins to put on or is the next appointment for braces not on the form? do braces hurt and how long does it take to put on the braces? thanks
oh what do u think of colors? im thinking lime green and hot pink. what would you get?
oh my mom cancelled treatment last month so the last time i went was to get x-rays and stuff and then taht time we got this form then my dad just called them the other day and i have an appointment for april 24th.

When I got my braces, (at age 40!), the records appt is where they take the models of your upper and lower arch with a dental tray and dental "goo" that sets up in your mouth. You have to hold still for a couple of minutes so the teeth will make a good impression. The assistants then take the trays and make an exact model of your mouth for the orthodontist to study. During the records appt, there might be more x-rays, depending on if the Dr. needs to see something more clearly.
The pressure of the braces is uncomfortable each time they tighten them, but tylenol or advil takes care of it.
The great thing about the band colors on the braces is that you can change them everytime you go back to the orthodontist. Some offices even let you go back for a "drop in" to change the colors. A hint: dark colors make your teeth look dirty!

Ok basically saying it cost $315 dollars for your appoinemtn to tell you what treatment etc, like a consultation. 45 mins is for taking information of your teeth, maybe more x-rays, looking at your mouth and consulting you on what you will need done for the following week. That is your next appointment, which is when you will start your treatment. Alot of people who had their braces said they hurt when they got them on but not when they got the off. Mine however did not hurt at all so i think it depends on how prone you are to pain. It took me about an hour to have them on but again it depends on how fast your dentist works and how your teeth are.
As for the color, pick any color, just not yellow or light orange, looks like u have something in your teeth. Purple and pink look really nice.

P.S. adding to your additional comment, no you really ought not to chew gum because it can get stuck and go hard in the braces. Not very nice, for you or the dentist. Also, do not drink fizzy drinks or they will leave stain marks where your braces had been. Take a tiny tooth brush and brush in between the braces and your teeth, each carefully and then use your normal toothbrush afterwards,
I have braces, got to warn you they hurt REALLY BADLY at first, but then you get used to them after a couple of days. Lim green and hot pink, sounds cute, go 4 it! I have on green and black right now (school colors).
ya so it sounds like you will get the spacers and braces on the 45 min appointment
some tips
1:don't eat starbursts
2:don't chew gum but if you have to chew chewing gum not bubble it is tough to chew and is really thick.
3:wear bands if you get them
4:listen to dentist
6BRUSH YOUR TEETH if you get them off and you didn't brush your teeth their will be black on your teeth.

If i could get a color i would pick black and blue
Lime green and hot pink sounds really cute
And u can still chew gum as long as it`s sugar free
