Could this be TMJ?!

Question: 2 years ago I starting have this pain on my right jaw. It happens when I open my mouth too wide and it would hurt when I open my mouth really wide or trying to bite on something really hard, the pain lasts for months and then go away. And when it does hurt, my jaw shifts to the right when I open my mouth. Its just a little shift and its very unnoticeable unless you concentrate on it. Is this serious?

I had braces for 3 years when I was young and it was removed 3 years ago. Not sure if it has anything to do with it.

This sounds like TMJ disorder. When they put and took the braces off they could have extended the jaw too far back but chances are it only aggravated not caused TMJ disorder. I have TMJ disorder and my dentist told me that there was nothing that I could have done to cause it. TMJ disorder is definitely degenerative and you should seek help immediately to help alleviate your pain and discomfort.
