Is anyone else depressed about working for the NHS?!

Question:

Is anyone else depressed about working for the NHS?

Answers:

Never depressed, saddened sometimes, disappointed perhaps. It really never lived up to my expectations.

I sum up the way that I feel as do many NHS staff, We love what we do, but not the way we have to do it.

Since 1990 successive governments have made all NHS staff jump through increasing numbers of hoops that do not contribute to patient care. To mix the metaphor they then move the goal posts almost yearly, when they find we get through all the hoops.

None of this makes for a happy workforce. When I started in the Health Service in the 70's there was so much less we could do for patients, yet we would work 120 hours a week for unbelievably low wages and were happy to do it.

Now the maximum week is 46 hours, we can do so much more and yet patients, nurses and doctors are much less happy. Governments and administrators have much to answer for!
