Good eating habits with braces?!

Question:

Good eating habits with braces?

I just want to know, which foods I should eat with braces, and which foods I should stay away from.

Answers:

Stay away from sticky foods such as raisins or any other dried fruit, sticky candy or taffy or caramel, and gum that isn't sugar free as it can build up in your braces and cause tooth decay (raisins, believe it or not, are especially bad with getting caught and causing decay).
Limit eating popcorn, the husks of the kernels can get lodged in your braces and cause problems. Avoid eating hard and crunchy foods i.e. nuts, pizza crusts, Doritos brand chips, These can break your brackets off. If you eat raw fruits or vegetables be sure to cut them into small pieces to avoid bracket breakage and avoid eating harder vegetables raw (such as carrots) as they're too hard for your braces to handle. Avoid drinking soda and other drinks high in sugar, these cause major problems with plaque build-up in between teeth for braces wearers. I had braces for two years and drank soda, and although I took excellent care of my teeth I still had three cavities when my braces came off. Soda is very damaging to teeth regardless of whether you have braces or not, but drinking it if you do have braces just isn't a good idea.
Other than that you really can eat pretty much whatever you want.
My best advice for you is this, while you have braces remember to floss nightly (no matter what!) and brush two to three times a day. Don't use a whitening toothpaste either. This can not only break down your bands (it's more abrasive than regular paste) but it can cause "spots" on your teeth from where your braces are covering the enamel.
