i had my first filling a few weeks back, and my dentist only does white fillings :)
basically, they give you an injection, which doesnt hurt at all, its like the tiniest scratch ever,
and then they wait till it is numb,
then they drill the tooth and get all the bad stuff out!
then they clean it
and then they like paint the bit they drilled away, and dry it with a light, and then the dentist will make sure that you can grind and bite without the filling getting in the way
it takes about ten to fifteen minutes

trust me it doesnt hurt!

First they will put topical on the area, so the shot won't hurt. Then they will give you a shot of local anesthesia to numb it. Then they drill out the decay. The next part is they place the material in and cure it with a special light to harden the filling material. Then it gets shaped and polished so it feels like your natural tooth. I had an old filling replaced this way. It only took about 25 minutes. The only part that hurt was the shot. I suggest you bring an ipod to listen to during the procedure. Good Luck!

I've had several white fillings done and I like them because you can't tell you've had fillings unless someone is probing around in your mouth looking for them. I have only had trouble with two of them and that is because my bite is wrong. I will be getting it fixed again this week though. No worries. Getting a filling doesn't hurt. And to the person above me, my dentist serenaded me...he's so cute lol.

It doesn't hurt AT ALL! I had to get a tooth extracted a couple of weeks ago and it didn't hurt. They put this gel on your gum to numb it just a little then they inject a needle. Close your eyes when they're putting the needle in, that way you won't be able to see it. They drill out your cavitie and put the filling in. If it's not too deep you probably won't even need freezing! I did three cavities without freezing and it tickled! So don't be afraid, it'll all be okay. ;]
