Does eating sour ruin your teeth?!

Question: my mom told me that sour stuff has acid and within time, it will eat away your teeth...like if you eat it too much. i like eating lemons...by itself. everyone knows that its extremely sour. if i keep eating it, would the acid like eat away my teeth? i heard that happens to bulimic people as well because when they throw up, the acid in their stomach along with the food, goes back up thru the mouth and eventually their teeth are really short and ugly. >.< is this true? you can criticize me if i sound stupid. ahaha. i dont mind. maybe my mom is being weird ._________.

Eating "sour" flavored foods or drinking like beverages will not as a rule damage your teeth. The real issue is how much acidity is contained if the food or beverage and how long you hold it in your mouth. The most damaging "sour" food is lemons. It's well known that sucking on a lemon exposes the tooth's surface to a very highly active acid and those who eat or suck on lemons on a regular basis can damage the enamel on their teeth.

As for stomach acid, it's capable of eating through metal as well as permanently damaging mouth and throat tissue. If you have a "Reflux" problem, get it properly diagnosed and begin treatment ASAP. That is an issue you don't ignore, to do so can produce serious consequences. One other issue, teeth don't get shorter due to acid damage, the tooth's surface gets pitted making it very vulnerable to decay. Good luck and I wish you well.
