Ok so i'm getting braces on April 11th and i have no idea what to expect.?!

Question: I'm only supposed to have braces for 18 months because my teeth aren't badly crooked. And this Friday i'm getting spacers. I just wanted to know what to expect. It's much better hearing from someone that had braces, rather than an orthodontist who never had them so they wouldn't really know. Tnx a ton :-D

I had braces and its really not that bad, they simply clean your teeth a little, which is painless, and then put the glue on, then the metal pieces, they use a UV light, im sure to then set the glue, they put the wires in, which can seem quite daunting and slightly scary, but really isnt, your teeth will be quite tender so eating soup is best and really soft foods. However watch out that the soup isnt hot, also getting the braces tightened isn't that bad, it does make your teeth very tender and isnt painfree at times, but taking some paracetemol really helps.
I wouldnt worry if I were you! Atleast you know that you are doing it all to get perfect teeth! It really is worth while!

I really don't want to scare you but I got braces when i was 14 and to tell you the truth it is the worst pain EVER! When I had my spacers put in, it was the week before Thanksgiving and I could not eat a thing because my teeth hurt soooo bad. You will have to eat soft foods alot with them on. But, all the pain was worth it for the end result. If I had to do it over again, I would do it again in a heartbeat!
Good luck and enjoy your straight teeth!

Spacers aren't bad at all. They take no more than two hours to do. All your ortho. will do is basically take these O looking rubber things and place them on two pieces of floss. They will get pushed up into your teeth and then your spacers are in. It's okay if they fall out a couple days before your braces are put on.

For braces, all they do at first is clean your teeth. It's not bad, especially because what my ortho. used, it tasted good. But after that, they apply the glue. that tastes BAD. Try not to swallow, it won't hurt you if you do, it just tastes gross. They'll use a q-tip to put the glue on. Afterwards, they'll hold up this orange piece of plastic (I think it's made of plastic), and they shine a UV light into your mouth to help the glue dry. Next, my ortho. put on each bracket, and of course, they used the UV light again. and lastly they put on the wires. They go and use these tools that look like pliers in a way, and gently push on the wires to place them correctly so they don't fall off.

If you need something such as a spacer or bracket placed back on your tooth, just call your dentist and they should place it back on for free.

I have braces and when you first get them on it will hurt your teeth like crazy. A few hours after getting them on your teeth will feel so numb and they will hurt like crazy. You most likely will ahve to change all your food to liquid because when you first get braces on you will not be able to bite even the softest of food. THis will continue for a few days and eventually the pain will go away because your teeth will get used to the pai. I recommend that you take pain killer as soon as you get the braces on and continue taking it too

hey i have braces for 7 moths now and top ones do not hurt that spacers are not that bad braces well top ones Hurts 4 3 days bottom idk cause i have mide for 1/2 a moth and it still hurts

Well, I had braces for over three years. When you get them on, they won't hurt for awhile. Usually the night you get them they start to hurt, and when you wake up the next morning too. They'll probably hurt for about a week. That's what it was like in my case. But some of my friends have braces and they didn't experience any pain, so it's different with every person. Just take some tylenol or whatever you choose and you should be okay. I went in every month to have them tightened. They usually only hurt for about a day when I got them tightened, but my teeth were pretty crooked. Just eat some soft food if they do. But don't expect that you will get your braces off exactly at 18 months. I was only supposed to have my braces for two years, and it turned into over three. It depends on your situation, but like I said, don't just assume you will get them off at 18 months. After you get them off, you will most likely have a retainer to keep your teeth in line. You can gradually wear it less until you're only wearing it at night or not at all.

I think this is basically the whole process. I'm not going to lie, braces aren't fun, but you get used to them and then it feels weird when they come off. =]

I have had braces for almost 2 yrs., and it isn't as bad as I really thought it would be. The spacers are ok, it only hurts for about a few days, then it goes away. The braces, i thought, really would hurt, but they aren't that bad. Just take aspirin before getting them on, and it's ok. they put glue on your teeth, then a powdery substance that tastes gross, then they use a light to dry the glue, then put the braces on. I don't know if that was in order, or what, but I hope it helps!
