Abscess Tooth?!

Question:

Abscess Tooth?

I have an abscess tooth that just really started swelling and hurting yesterday. I do have an appointment with my dentist in 4 days, but I need a little help with the swelling and pain until then. Anyone know any good things I can use around the house to help out until I can get to the dentist?

Answers:

There are some good home remedies for toothaches. These are the best that have worked well for me and some people that I know.

-Hold a shot of whiskey in your mouth over the tooth for a few minutes. some of the alchohol will absorb into your gums and numb the pain.

-If you do not have sensitive teeth like I do, try to either suck on a piece of ice over the tooth, or hold the ice against the gums around the tooth to numb the pain. You can also hold an ice pack on the cheek next to the tooth. Never use heat to soothe the pain. Though it may help with the pain, it will draw bacteria to your tooth and help it breed there.

-Rinse your mouth with warm, very salty water.

-Take a pain reliever such as Ibeuprofen (Motrin, Advil) or Acetaminophen (Tylenol). These will help take down the pain and the swelling.

-This isn't a home remedy (neither was the above), but Oragel is something that works wonders for toothaches. You can buy it over the counter at any drugstore. it takes the pain away right away and lasts for a long time.
