Gum grafting, would you ever do it again?!

Question: I had my regularly scheduled dental cleaning approx. 2 months ago, and then I decided to talk to an Ortho about braces. They want me to see a Periodontist about some gum recession before we proceed with braces. My dentist NEVER told me that my gums were bad enough to see a Periodontist about possible gum grafts. The Orthodontist says that my dentist must have told me, but I would have remembered having been told that. Braces wouldn't have been high on my list of priorities, knowing that my gums were that bad. So I'm peeved at my dentist and scared out of my mind. Anyway, I have an appt. with a Periodontist in a few weeks for a consult. To those who have had gum grafting, is it worth it, and what was your experience? Thanks.

Grafting is done in severe gum recession, I dont think u hhave severe gum disease. The procedure doesnt have very high sucess rate. Have few opinions before going for procedure.

I changed dentists and found out my gums were in bad shape. My former dentist never mentioned it.

I am definitely glad I did it, although it was really, really painful once the shots wore off. I would HIGHLY recommend that you get your pain meds filled prior to the appointment and begin taking as soon as you leave the peri.

I don't remember my cost, but I believe it was pretty expensive. .

My mother-in-law had the same procedure, and she told me to start using Listerine once daily and I wouldn't have any more gum issues. I've not had any more problems, and this was 10+ years ago.
