Why are mouthgaurds made to hang/fit on the top teeth and not the bottom teeth?!

Question: they can be made to fit either the top or bottom teeth; it depends on your preference. Standard is to do it for your top teeth, since it won't interfere with your tongue as much. If you prefer to have it made for the bottom, just let your dentist know, so they can make that known to the lab fabricating it.

Because it would drive your tongue crazy having it on the bottom teeth.

I'm guessing it's because your top teeth stick out farther than your bottom teeth (unless you have dental issues), so they would be the ones to take the most impact from any hit.

However, I used to have a rubber mouthguard that fit both my top and bottom teeth, so they do exist...

they are made to hang/fit on the top piece because if you open your mouth it then doesnt come out becuase the force of gravity is acting on it.

I agree that it won't bother your tongue. But if you use a mouthguard for grinding your teeth; its because you move your jaw and on the top it will stay in place.
