Dry Socket - impossible after how many days?!

Question:

Dry Socket - impossible after how many days?

Its 2 weeks today since I got my tooth out, am I safe from Dry Socket.

I am asking cause the hole is still about the same size as it was 2 weeks ago, but there is no pain at all.

Oh, it was a big tooth at the back of the bottom teeth

Its a pain cause bits of food still keep getting stuck in it. Its not so easy to just eat on the other side cause I have a bad tooth there, and it dont take much for that to start hurting. Seems like everytime a tooth is fixed/taken out another starts to hurt, better off getting all of them taking out, toothache free forrever ;-)

Answers:

You are safe now; the hole will take months to fill in completely. Be sure to keep the area clean by swishing after meals so the tissue can continue to heal. Good luck!

Additional information: It's safe for you to swish vigorously now without any possibility of dislodging the clot; it has completely healed leaving new tissue growth along with new bone filling in the opening where the tooth's roots used to be. It takes some time for this to fill in completely and you may always feel a slight indentation where the tooth was removed. So when you eat and food gets lodged in the socket area you can easily remove it by swishing without any concern to causing harm to the healing that is taking place.

Now as for your last comment, you just "think" you would be better off with having all your teeth removed. You have no idea how many patients with dentures only wish they still had their own teeth because of the difficulty they have with them, being loose and causing sore spots, and the loss of ability to chew foods as well as taste them. Nothing is better than your own natural teeth; dentures are only a substitute for aesthetic and digestive purposes. Don't give up on your own teeth, do what ever you can to keep them for your lifetime, you'll never regret it but you certainly will if you choose the denture alternative. Good luck!
