$5700-$5200 for braces, good or bad?!

Question: I'm getting standard metal colored braces (no clear/white braces or anything). Some things you need to know, my teeth is decent but I wouldn't say I have perfect teeth. From the center, one of my 3rd tooth from the top is actually in the gum, so I might have to knock out a tooth to free some room from it. Thats the biggest thing though, everything else is a tad out of place here and there.

My first estimate was $5200 and my second was $5700.
Is this a good deal? am I being over charged? I don't have insurance but then again insurance doesn't pay for things like dentistry.

Thanks

i have no ortho insurance and i paid over $5300, that's with the retainer included. it's a hefty price but if you really need (or want) them, or want straight teeth then that's probably the only way.

My parents are paying 5000 over 2 years, and this includes my retainer afterwords.

If there is no enormous need to get braces than 5700-5200$ isnt really worth it. I have a slight overbite and a crossbite and was supposed to get braces according to the orthodonist and my mom said no way! She had asked the dentist if it was a neccessity and he said no. If you have problems with the way your teeth are than go ahead and do what you have to do but if you ask me there is no point in getting braces. Nobody has perfect teeth and having one or two slightly crooked teeth is nothing but the normal.

I think it's too expensive. You could fly to another country (return ticket, hotel bills and all) and still have it done cheaper. In Asia you are looking at about $1000 to $2500 US for the same work, same professionalism, and quality. Exactly the same. (Philippines)

Our daughter just got the standard metal braces. We live in Indiana--and not in a big city--and were charged $4999. No insurance here, either. Ouch!

I think you'll be happy with your nice, straight smile, though, once the braces are off! :)

my brother is geting them a little cheeper but not much

Ahhhh, could be to little and then again could be to much. Such fees are based on two criteria, the first being how time consuming and or difficult your realignment will be and second, what the dentist thinks he or she can get fee wise. Regardless of what you get done in a dental office the fees are usually based on making a profit that represent a 5 to 10 times mark up of any Lab fee the dentist has to pay to have an appliance created. Then of course like any independent business person that is in the (making someone look good business) they add a margin of cost that satisfies their ego, because they are so undeniably talented and your fortunate they allow you to accept their services....(Right)...Anyway, good luck and I wish you well.

I live in Malta. Most dental surgeries are free of charge here. I am in need of a fixed brace and I went to the goverment clinic for free but said that I have to pay for a fixed brace and they only do non-fixed braces for free. They say it would cost me
