Can l take valium before l go to the dentist?!

Question: I'm a dentist.

Never self-diagnose/self-medicate before seeing the doctor, no matter what kind of doctor you are seeing. Taking prescription medications that you routinely take is ok, as is taking antibiotics prescribed for pre-medication purposes is ok. But diagnosing your own anxiety and self-medicating with Valium is not ok. Perhaps there is another medication that the doctor would rather use for you. Perhaps he might determine that you are not a good candidate for treatment at all. Perhaps you won't even be treated that day, perhaps, perhaps...... You can never predict with certainty what we will decide for you when you sit in our chair. So, don't self-medicate.

If you are really that nervous, you can call the doctor's office and ask if you can take a Valium.

Yes, I have to take it before I go even for a check up - I take 5mg the night before, 5mg the morning of the appointment, and 5mg a couple of hours before the appointment.

Just make sure you have someone to drive you to and from the appointment, and you should probably let your dentist know that you have taken it - not that it will affect anything he does, but it's probably useful for him to know how much anxiety you experience at going.

Ask your dentist about Valium. He/She will review your medical History before putting you on Valium. It will definitely calm a person and cut your stress levels. Also ask for a morning appointment.
