I'm a dentist.

First off, it's important to remember that the surface of your tongue is by no means uniform. The tongue is quite a nifty little device that has many anatomical components.

Covering most of your tongue are, as you cleverly noticed, are little hair-like extensions called "filiform papillae". These are normal anatomy.

There are conditions, as you mentioned, where the filiform papillae can become extended, such as with smokers.

It is very unlikely that anything you're describing is abnormal. Nevertheless, if you ever see something on your body that doesn't look right to you, make an appointment to see your doctor (physician or dentist).

(Don't go see a nurse-practitioner or physician-assistant, by the way. They'd have no f*cking clue what's supposed to be found on your tongue).

Is it in the VERY back of your tongue??? Like you have to stick your tounge out all the way to see it???

If so, those are normal. Everyone has a patch of largish kind of bumps on the back of their tounges. Its nothing to worry about.

But if it is really bothering you, ask your mother or go to the doctor.

one word!

D O C T O R S!

Go visit your dentist. Nothing beats armchair internet diagnoses than having a real flesh and blood dentist take a quick looksie in your mouth.

That being said, it could be just normal tongue anatomy. You've got different kinds of structures on your tongue - we call them papillae, and these are the structures that house the taste buds. Some look like little hairs, the ones towards the back of your throat look more like discs or mushrooms, and there are little red nubs speckled throughout. On the left and right sides of the tongue, towards the back, you might see some oddly-shaped bumps and lumps. These are the lingual tonsils - basically the same tissue as the stuff in the back of your throat, only on both sides of your tongue.

Basic lingual anatomy lesson aside, you really should go talk to a dentist.

Hmm...One thing my mom told me was..If you dont brush your tung as much as you should..Sometimes these type of white balls come out,and its usually bacteria piled up on the surface of it,when you try to remove,or i think it's when its already there it has this sort of irratating painful burning sensation..On the spot,

Not in between your crotch >.<

There are many different types of taste buds on your tongue. The ones that seem white and are a little long are most likely your filliform papillae. They have keratinized tips (like a small calus) and give the tongue a velvet appearance. They are the most numerous on your tongue so there may be a white patch. This is common in many individuals. Your tongue often may become "coated" where something you eat or drink a distinct color may stick to it. IE: orange juice may turn them an orange color.

The red bomps on your tongue are most likely your fungiform papillae. They are also normal and contain taste buds.

Not many people are aware that they have to brush their tongue too. It harbors bacteria just like your teeth do. This make cut down on how much color the papillae hold.

Hope this helps!

everyone has red bumps on the tip of your tounge so don't worry!

My tounge has always been white-ish and i have a few hairs on the back of my tounge.

My doctor saw my tounge a million times and never said anything about it so i don't think anythings wrong with it.

I'm not a professenal so Ask A Doctor!!
