The general answer is "Yes" you can lose all your teeth to gum disease. The reason is you don't see gum disease that doesn't also affect the gum bone. When you see a tooth that appears to be getting longer, your seeing more of the tooth because the bone has shrunk down from it..Given enough time gum disease can cause the bone to shrink so far that there isn't enough bone left to hold a tooth in place and extraction becomes the procedure that has to be done...The additional problem that takes place is that because of the bone loss that necessitated the extractions, there now isn't a good healthy strong well developed gum bone ridge to fit a denture or partial denture on to....So the bottom line for you right at this time is to get to your DDS..in your case a Periodontist and do what is necessary to save your teeth. Pleas do so ASAP...Good luck and I wish you well.

Well periodontitis (deeper than gingivitis) makes you lose your teeth, but from what I've gathered you first wpuld have years of gingivitis before you get periodontits. That could be wrong and probably is in some cases.

I am not sure if clearing up the gingivitis should mean that periodontitis is resolved too.

Gingevitus is an inflamation of the gums. What you need to do is floss regularly and brush. If you have sensativaty or bone loss, the dentist might recommend a floride rinse. Loss teeth are caused by bone loss. Not by gigevitus. But poor gum care can cause bone loss. So you want to be kind to your gums and have good oral hygiene. Floss.
