When you see a dentist, why do they poke your gums in an attempt to make you jum!

Question: Its not that they like to do it. Its something that is necessary. They check your pocket depths 1-3mm is good 4-10mm is bad..That mean you have periodontal disease and you will need a more invasive cleaning. Good luck!

To do damage so they can charge more money and keep you comeing back.

they clean out under ur gums

They take a course in "torment and torture" before they get to start practicing :-)

They are checking to see how deep the root pockets are. The deeper they are the more chance you have of gum disease, cavities, and more chance of bone loss.

Ugh, I was just at the dentist a couple weeks ago and they did that to me. I can't remember what they called it, but it was to check the condition of your gums, and also to check for bleeding etc. The "gum test" sucks!

It's people like you that give dentist such a high suicide rate!

They are checking depth of perio pockets to see if you need perio treatments!! Doc W
