Why is the Dentist making me have 2 cleanings when they said I needed one?!
Question: I need to to have fillings put in but first I needed a full mouth cleaning, according to them. Now, I need a "regular" cleaning, according to the chick in the front desk who collects my money after I coulda sworn I heard the dentist say I wont need another one. I feel like they might be robbing me of my money, because those cleanings cost me a lot of money. Should I raise hell?

Hi, I'm a dentist.
It sounds like you had a full mouth debridement (or scaling and root planing) for your first cleaning. It is within the standard of care to do a second, traditional prophylaxis following either of these treatments.
In short, you are being treated exactly as you should, though your dentist and/or hygienist should have taken a bit more time to explain all this to you.
I hope that helps.
tel her you need to talk to the dentist before you need to go for the ' regular ' cleaning ! Sometimes when the tartar is extensive the dentist does the cleaning in two sittings. Once deep and then on the surface as you dont have to sit thru for a long time in the first sitting. They may not have completed the cleaning and thats exactly why they asking you to come for the other sitting. Have a talk with your dentist before you go ahead.
