umm i got 7 teeth pulled and 4 surgies so i feel for you..

well i'm a baby with shots so yeah i was really nervous..

the first time i got it done i was put asleep.. they gave me an IV and that knocked me out (the stuff the put in it) honestly... the iv hurt....
The second time.. I was awake so i told them i hated shots so they put the gel numb stuff on it so i would not feel the shots going into my mouth.. i also asked for something to cover my eyes because i didn't wanna see all the tools they were going to use.. after everything was numb they put the shots in and i did not feel them.. All i felt was pressure of the tooth and that was it =) it was over like 30 mins but thats including for them to calm me down lol

and extration is just pulling a tooth. The gives you a couple of shots in your gum to numb your tooth and the surounding area and then they just pull it out. You don't feel anything unless it is later when your tooth wakes up. Then a couple of advil or tylenol will take the edge off.

It shouldn't hurt. They numb you and you don't even know its out until the dentist holds it up. After the numbness leaves, usually a few hours, it will ache with a dull ache. The dentist will give you advice to get an aspirin type medication to relieve that. Also he'll probably give you a prescription for an antibiotic to prevent infection. Piece of cake! Get yourself some ice cream for later and feel justified to eat it, calories or not, because you earned it.

my in-laws are dentists and no it doesn't hurt because they numb it remendously before they even do anything. the shot is the worst part and to be honest it's not even that bad. if you're super nervous they can give you nitrous before-hand which makes you not really care about anything that's going on around you but you are still awake and not like messed up during or afterwards. i'm not sure why they're putting you to sleep for an extraction, but they usually give you some type of medicine (intraveniously...sp?) which makes you just drift off to sleep as you normally would at night. i know it seems scary (i have a completely irrational fear of the dentist) but it's not bad as long as you have a dentist who will work with you to help ease your anxiety and discomfort. make sure you talk to him/her about all of this before hand. some will even prescribe you an anti-anxiety medication before you even get there like valium so that you aren't jittery and upset when you get there.

They just pull a tooth. They give you a little shot called Novicain. It does pinch a little bit, but it's really not all that painful. After that kicks in, you won't feel a thing! Maybe a pull, but no pain at all!

it does hurt a bit after the numbing wears off,they use goofy gas that will put you to sleep;}

Your dentist should NOT put you to sleep for an extraction. You should take antibiotics beforehand and for several days afterwards to avoid infection. He should give you a painkiller to take the morning of the day of your extraction, and then he should give you local anesthesia.

Believe it or not, I had an extraction, and took only a mild painkiller beforehand, then used ice packs and ibuprofen (motrin, advil etc) afterwards. It ached but the icepack and ibu together was enough.

You really want to avoid painkillers for this type of minor surgery as much as possible so that you can remain awake and aware. If you feel extreme pain, you can let the dentist know and avoid possible adverse aftereffects.
Good luck with it!!

oh please!! they use a few needles to numb u and then it doesnt really hurt its just pressure!!! and i had to get 11 teeth pulled! all at different times!! if it didnt kill me it wont kill u to get one :]
