Where in the UK can I see a dentist urgently?!

Question: I recently moved house and changed dentist. I was lucky enough to be able to find an nhs dentist rather than paying to go private. However, I have had horrendous toothache for the past week and my new dentist can not offer me an appointment until June!!! I can't really afford to pay to go private, is there any way to get an emergency appointment on the nhs?

by law your dentist is obligated to offer you an appointment within a week, if they do not they are breaking their contract with the nhs.

phone back and remind them of this.

can i just remind everyone who is replying here that this person is registered with a dentist and all hospitals and nhs 24 will tell them to go to their dentist they are registered with!

you cannot be seen by any other dentist unless it is out of hours and is an emergency that your own dentist cannot handle.

your dentist must see you or you can report them to the GDC for neglect as you are registered with them.

yes go into A&E at your local hospital.

Some hospitals have an emergency dentist. I need a tooth pulling - it's broken off below the gum - and I have to wait until 20th. Sept!

phone NHS direct up they should be able to help you

Contact NHS 24.

I know the Scottish version of it, gives you a option for emergency dental treatment, and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Good luck hope you find relief from your toothache.

You'll have to go to the hospital. If you ring them they will tell you when the emergency dental clinic runs. It only runs at certain times of the day at my hospital.

Your dentist really should fit you in asap, as it's their job to stop the pain.
That said, about 5 months ago I was having lunch with a friend when I bit something hard and ended up in so much pain. It hurt so bad I couldn't drive to my dentist so I just walked into one near town within walking distance and they fitted me in straightaway.
In the mean time, try calling all the dentists in your area, see if they can squeeze you in. Swishing whiskey over your tooth helps numb the pain.
Hope you feel better soon!

Kirsty.

Don't know where you live but here in Hitchin, when i had a raging toothache and no dentist, i rang our local nhs one and they saw me before i'd even registered!! good luck, the mouth pain is the worst, my sympathys to you x x

OK.This is what you need to do. Phone the NHS Direct and speak to the advisor, they will give you a reference number and get you to an emergency dentist.
Otherwise you would just be put onto a waiting list.
I strongly advise you to phone them, and they HAVE to treat you if your in PAIN.
Good luck.
Hope you get better soonl.

You can find your nearest dentist on the NHS website buy entering your postcode.

Dental hospital will see you the same day, take a ticket and wait your turn.
