The only way to get good coverage at a low price is to work at a job that offers it as a benefit. Individual plans are not cost effective for insurance companies, so they don't usually offer them.
So-called "dental discount" plans sold over the internet are not a good idea. Very few dentists accept these "discount" plans because it does not make sense to write off 50% of their normal fees if they can charge someone else their entire fee. Would you do YOUR job at half what you normally get? The only way a dentist can take Ameriplan, or any of the others, is to raise their fees or do other procedures which are not included in the discount plan.
It sounds like a good deal, but it is really a waste of money.
Delta Dental in some states has started a program called "Patient Direct." Check in your state to see if it is offered. Other than that, you'd be better off to start a health-care savings account.
