Do braces hurt?
Heyy, i am getting braces on tuesday and i am scared to death. When you first get the on do they hurt? Please answer me back and i am so scared, my friend says they dont hurt that much but they poke you with the wire and that pinches you. Please answer back thx bi xoxo

First, don't be scared--it'll be okay. I promise!
For some, it hurts, and for others, it just feels weird. In short, it depends what kind of braces you get how much it hurts. I had brackets that went all the way around each tooth, and yes, those hurt because they were of course, fitted for my teeth, and they were very tight! People who have the braces just on the front of their teeth say that it doesn't hurt much because they just "glue" them on.
The hurt goes away, though, relatively quickly. After every tightening and putting them on, of course, I would hurt for a day or two (depending on how much they had tightened them), and then it would be back to normal.
The wire, too, depends on what kind you get. The wire didn't bother me as bad as the brackets did, unless it was broken. And yes, like a guitar string, the wire can break.
My advice...let your orthodontist/assistant know if they're hurting you. I had a really bad orthodontist who really didn't care much about pain, but I LOVED when I had his assistant because she really did. She made it as good as she could for me, tightening little by little and when she took my braces off, she loosened the brackets instead of just grabbing & yanking. Then, it didn't hurt at all!! :-)
