Tooth extraction help????!

Question: I had a tooth out yesterday that has been very painful for about a week, when it was out, the dentist said it had an absess on the root. Today, it is so swollen, and incredibly painful! Looking at the socket, it all looks fine, nice blood clot in place, but the swelling in the cheek and pain makes me feel like before the tooth was out, if not even worse! Whats happening?

that is normal for an extracted abcess tooth to cause the are and cheek to be swollen and painful. if the dentist didn't give you a perscription for a pain med or antibiotics, take motrin or call him and ask for them. it is nothing the dentist did.

Sounds like you need a different dentist?? It really seems like you should be taking an antibiotic.

You have an infection and you should get on the phone to your dentist and

Make an appointment don't ask for advice and tell them that you are in pain
Speak of the pain the same way a news reporter on the 6:o-clock tells how bad something is

Blow it out of proportion to put it bluntly.

It really sounds like you have a dry socket. The exact same thing happened when I had my wisdom tooth pulled. It also had an abcess. I had to go back to the dentist and they put medicated gauze in the socket. It tastes bad but made it feel 100000000000000 times better and was totally worth the nasty taste. It also helped my tooth heal faster.

if your dentist prescribed a pain reliever, you should take it when you feel pain from your tooth. swelling on your cheek is normal. i had mine for about a week too. all i did was to put ice over it most of the time for about a week. it reduced the swelling a lot and it helped decrease the pain too.

Did your dentist explain to you what an abscess was? Basically, it's an infection in the tooth, or gum-line. So, you know the abscess was on the root of the tooth, and it has been removed. The swelling, and pain could possibly be the infection is still partially there. I would call your dentist, and explain to him/her, the swelling, and how painful it is. He might need to put you on an antibiotic for a few days.
