Let me tell you......I have an expander right now and to be honest its doesn't really hurt but when they put it on it will feel very tight. I'v had my expander for 6 months now and i'm finally getting it off next week and getting braces. You should not worry about an expander but when you turn it.... you will feel a WHOLE lot of discomfort but you should be fine....

no it doesn't hurt and it depends on your orthodontist like if they suck then it will probably take an hour if they ae really good then it will probably take 30 to 45 minutes
