Freaking out over surgery?!

Question: Today, I went to go see an oral surgeon because I need to pull out 4 teeth for braces. I'm really scared because I'm going to be put under, I'm freaking out. He told me that pulling all 4 teeth would only take 15 minutes, I think that is the only good thing about it, but I'm still scared.

Can anyone tell me what its like?

I had to get 4 teeth pulled.
Trust me- it is a WALK IN THE PARK. I was freaking out about getting the shot, because I HATE needles, but they use a numbing spray and you can't feel ANYTHING. You are literally asleep 6 seconds later. You won't feel ANYTHING.

It's kind of funny when you wake up; usually they take you from the room where they were working and into a little sleeping area so you can sleep a little. They had to carry me like a bay; I was so full of novacaine I couldn't walk staright :)

When you wake up, you will have a lot of cotton in your mouth. It's there to stop the blood, but it's only bleeding because of the tooth not there to stop it, and not from a nick or cut. It doesn't hurt at ALL; there is literally NO PAIN involved WHATSOEVER.
Your mouth may still be numb for awhile, and it's a little hard to talk. But you'll be totally fine. I freaked out for nothing. :)

Don't worry about it. It was so easy, I almost wanted to do it again. :)

You'll be fine. Beleive me you'd much rather be asleep than awake when it happens!

it killes you so much i had it don and ****** a gril later that night

i have been put under a number of times..i had cancer when i was younger...but no dont worry--you dont feel anything
xxgoodluck

Are you talking about the wisdom teeth. If all 4 are taken out, it could take about one hour. Somtimes after the surgery, you might get swelling or an infection. Those are two of the most common results after surgery, but you could get none of them.

my two daughters were put under at the age of 5 to have a load of bad baby teeth removed, apart from vomiting after waking up they were fine,so i wouldn`t worry about it if i were u:)

it's not that bad really!!!

I had it when I was 9 and I survived....
First they give you some shots to numb your mouth (which doens't really hurt, but it is the worst part) then you don't fell a thing when they take them out! thats it! (p.s. they were adult teeth!!!)

I had to get a few teeth pulled out when I was 5 years old, I remember I was so terrified! But they gave me that laughing gas to calm me down, and it felt like it was done in a few seconds O.o
But you have nothing to be afraid of! It'll all be over soon.

It's really not that bad at all. I remember having 4 teeth actually taken out as well for coincidently for braces as well. I came in, they put me under, I went out really quick and I assume most do. When I awoke I was a bit wobbly on my feet, but I had someone to drive me home afterwards. A few hours after resting off the numbness that you get in the mouth and all that good stuff I was feeling fine. Even after getting them pulled I don't remember any pain either so I wouldn't worry about it to much :).

i had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled the same day and they put me under because all the teeth were impacted, the most pain i felt was when they stuck the iv in my arm but other than that the only bad thing was a bloody mouth

Hey you will be just fine. Make sure someone is there to drive you home. If you trust your Dr (you should or you should go to someone you DO trust) you will be just fine. And when it is all over have him send you home with good pain killers....

well they make your teeth numb with a shot but thats the only thing that really hurts. The rest is fine after that but it takes a while for the medicine that they numbed your mouth with to wear off so be prepared to drool after...lol. hoped this helps.

i went thru the same thing they R just make your mouth numb u won't feel a thing. they will give u laughing gas 2 make it numb.

You're lucky to be under when it happens, lol. Having braces can be a painful, time-consuming and just plain irritating process, good luck, lol. (When I had braces, at one stage I was going to the dentist every week to have it altered coz I had a tooth which neded to be gradually pulled down)

It's like you're in a deep long sleep, you don't feel anything, don't worry. :)

They know what they're doing, and they'll monitor you while you're under. If you get the laughing gas, when you wake up it's funny.

My friend had the laughing gas, and they asked her if the cars can fly, and if her school was on water, and she laughed so much, and said yes, and it wasn't even funny :)

The only thing I'd be worried about is after watching the movie Awake, but they monitor you about stuff like that, and it's only 15 minutes.

Don't fret, it'll be alright :) But ouch, four teeth? :( You'll be numb after that I bet ;)

GL.

15 mins? Are you serious? It takes my sister 15 mins+ to have one tooth removed, and she's had 12 extractions. Anyway, the only things that would happen is you'll bleed for a while(like, a day, but they give you gauze) and you definately have to eat soft foods, or Freezies(no, really, Freezies numb your mouth too). And when it stops bleeding rinse with salt water and DO NOT brush that area with your toothbrush, or let anyone hurt you in the face. I did that to my sister and it bled a teeny bit.
Hope I helped.

Yeah it'll be simple- believe me. I had it done last year and in 2 weeks I'm having 2 wisdom teeth pulled. It's the best way to do it. You go in to the surgery, lie down, they give you a little bitty shot (which you can't even feel) and within 10 seconds you're fast asleep. Next thing you know, you're being walked to a little sleeping area, where you rest for a while.
My dentist said it should take about 30 minutes to extract, so I think yours will take longer - but it will feel like 15 seconds.

I once had a tooth pulled without being put to sleep and I MUCH prefer being put under. You have no memory of what happens, you just lie down and it's over.
