I need some information on Gingivitis?!
Question:
I need some information on Gingivitis?
Answers:
Gingivitis is an infection (or inflammation) of the gums caused by plaque (soft build up) and tartar (hard build up). It can be worsened by certain medical conditions like diabetes. If left alone it causes periodontal disease which is a disease that causes breakdown of the bone under the gums. When the bone breaks down it is like taking out a piece of the foundation of your house and expecting the house not to sag in that area. You can get rid of gingivitis with a thourough dental cleaning to remove tartar and plaque and then keep the gums healthy with brushing and flossing. The bone damage from perio cannot be fixed and will cause you to have a much more difficult time keeping the gums healthy and often leads to more cavities at a later time. Hope that helps,
