Crowned front teeth?!
Question: Is it possible to have my two front teeth crowned? I had some cosmetic work done several years ago (had a gap, and the dentist filed a little of my natural teeth away, and put in white filling material). Since then, I have to have it re-done every few years (the filling will crack or chip), and every time she replaces it, she sands/drills away a little more natural tooth material. She suggested porcelain veneers, which my dental insurance doesn't cover. Can I just get crowns? They're much cheaper and they're covered by insurance!

i'm a dental assistant and we do a lot of crowns and veneers in the office. it is possible to have crowns for your front teeth. cosmeticly speaking, they might not be the best. if you care a lot to what they will look, try to get veneers even if they are pricey.
crowns require a lot more shaving of the teeth down until there is enough retention for the crown to hold on to without messing up your bite or how your upper and lower teeth connect. and that will also tell what kind of crown you can get. the dark line around the crown is usually the metal part of it showing. definitely consult with your dentist to see what options are available for your case.
