I know sugar can cause cavities and tooth decay but can it also cause enamel ero!

Question:

I know sugar can cause cavities and tooth decay but can it also cause enamel erosion?

Also, for brushing, are electric toothbrushes more likely to brush away enamel than normal toothbrushes? Thanks :)

Answers:

Electric toothbrushes are not more likely to wear away enamel. Matter of fact, if you are using the toothbrush close to normally, wearing the enamel won't happen.

Enamel "erosion" is a chemical process, normally caused by an acid - orange juice, stomach acid, etc. This erosion can happen along with cavities, but sugar can form acid that will do a great job dissolving enamel with or without chemical erosion happening as well.
