What is a geographic tongue?and symtoms?!
Question:
What is a geographic tongue?and symtoms?
Answers:
It's where tastebuds are missing from patches of your tongue, and the red shiny patches are (usually) surrounded by a whitish line. The irregular shapes look a bit like islands on a map, which is how it got its name.
It *can* be associated with autoimmune diseases (it is with me), asthma or allergies but not always. It may make it a bit uncomfortable to eat hot or spicy foods, but not always. No-one really knows what causes it (though they suggest to make sure you're getting enough vitamin B since that will fix it for some people) or how to treat it, except if it's uncomfortable use an oral gel to numb it a bit, and it often disappears spontaneously.
It does NOT appear to have any serious consequences - not associated with higher rates of mouth cancers or anything like that - and most people who have it just ignore it most of the time. Just try not to stick your tongue out at people or in photos, or you'll get comments.
