Is there a surgery to straighten teeth?!

Question:

Is there a surgery to straighten teeth?

because braces can be very uncomfortable and painful sometimes.

Answers:

Surgery is used as part of orthodontic treatment to solve specific problems, but can't straighten teeth on their own.

The most common surgery in orthodontics is extraction-- Pulling teeth to create more room in the arch to relieve overcrowding, but it needs to be used in conjunction with braces or other means of tooth movement.

For people with upper and lower jaws that are not in proportion, orthognathic surgery is used to reshape/reposition the jawbones into better proportion. This still needs to be used in conjunction with braces though, and orthognathic surgery usually results in your jaws being wired shut for a number of months for the bone to heal!

So to answer your question, surgery is only part of the process of straightening teeth, and won't do it on its own.

Hope this helps.
