For Toothaches, is Clove oil more effective than Orajel?!

Question: I just applied some Orajel and it made absolutely no difference.

Answers: I just applied some Orajel and it made absolutely no difference.

Clove oil will sooth but not really numb the area. Orajel doesn't sooth or heal, only numb. Clove is more homeopathic and actually tries to heal.

You could try it. When I had my wisdom teeth out, I got what is known as "dry socket." It basically is when the blood clot comes out and then the nerve root is exposed. (Very painful!) They gave me these little cotton things that were soaked in clove oil that they stuffed in there and it helped a lot. I don't know if there was extra medication in those things or if it was just pure cloves. I could sure taste cloves though.

When a tooth starts to hurt, it usually is too late to do a simple procedure like a filling. U probably need a more involved [and expensive] dental procedure. As far as clove oil vs orajel..well I suggest seeing your dentist asap, as neither of those remedies will help much. However, clove oil [eugenol]is in a temporary filling material and is mixed with zinc oxide and is put in a tooth to try to "soothe" the tooth before a permanent filling is placed there. This zinc oxide and eugenol filling is left for about 6 weeks to see if the tooth can heal itself while the tooth lays down more dentin material [inside the tooth]. Forget the orajel. Its useless, except maybe when a small child is teething.
