Yes it is true.

Baby teeth fall out because the adult tooth develops underneath it and begins to move upwards. As it does it puts pressure on the baby tooth's roots causing root resorption. In simple terms, the the pressure causes the roots to dissolve which is why the baby teeth get loose and eventually fall out.

If at age 14 the baby tooth hasn't fallen out then the adult tooth is either naturally missing (not common, but not rare either) or it is in the wrong position in the jaw to erupt properly. Your dentist will take x-rays to determine which is the case and discuss a course of treatment with you based on those results.

There are exceptions. Some individuals may just run a little later in erupting adult teeth, but in general your dentist's facts are accurate.

it depends. Everyone is different. i lost my last baby tooth a week before i turned 13. My adult tooth still grew in. Some people don't lose their baby teeth because the have no adult teeth. Some people are just late and will be fine.

THE PLAIN TRUTH IS THAT SOMETIMES PEOPLE DON'T LOSE SOME OF THEIR "BABY" MOLARS BECAUSE THERE IS NO PERMANENT ADULT TOOTH TO TAKE ITS PLACE.
I HAVE SOME ADULT PATIENTS WITH BABY MOLARS.
