Does it hurt to get a tooth pulled? See details below for more please!?!

Question: I have an adult tooth pushing up on a baby tooth. It is even broken through the side of my gums and it doesn't hurt, but my dentists want to pull it. I have a few questions. 1. What will happen if I do NOT get it pulled? 2. I know that a numbing agent will be used but will the needle hurt when they inject the numbing stuff? I am terrified of needles and I am becoming really scared of my dentist. and 3. How long after the tooth is pulled will it hurt? Will I be in pain when I am trying to sleep for a week after it's pulled?...I am so scared...I almost cry every time I think about it. I don't want to come off as a baby but I do not know what to do...Help? ='(

1. It could mess up the rest of your teeth in regards to how they come in. and it will crowd your teeth and you will need braces.
2. They can place what is called a topical anastethic on your gums and that will help with any pain you may feel when the needle goes in. Another option is being put to sleep which, may not be worth it for one tooth. Also, if you use Nitrous Oxide, you won't feel a thing!
3. There is not much pain after its over. YOu will be numb for several hours. Which isn't too bad...then once you aren't numb, you may need pain meds...but its not as bad as you think!!

I am a dental assistant, I deal with patients like you all day! I actually work in an oral surgeon's office, where all we do is pull teeth!!

Also, I just had my wisdom teeth pulled today

1. too many teet in you rmouth and your teeth would be crooked LOL
2. dont be a baby, a little pain now versus HUGE annoyance later
3. once it's out, it wont hurt

have you ever taken out a tooth before?

if he gives you a shot of novicaine it wont.my brother is a dentist and once they give you a shot of novicane you wont feel a thing.dont worry! youre bound to feel pain after the novicane wears off,the doctor will give you a pain killer for the pain, but after a few days youll be fine.

well one time i had the numbing stuff. it makes your mouth feel nothing for the rest of the day and it looks like its falling off your face like your stupid or something, not fun. well as for the needle, it hurts just alittle bit more than one that you would get on your arm. so, good luck

I recently had my wisdom teeth removed. I am also terrified of needles.

They can rub on a numbing gel before they use the needle with Novocaine in it. It really DOES NOT hurt!

I say if you are that nervous get nitrous oxide during the extraction. That's what I did. I went from tears to giggling in like 1 minute.

After the Novocaine wears off it does hurt a little but your dentist will probably prescribe you so pain killers.

You will be OK! Good Luck!!!!

At first i was really scared too. The needle feels like a little pinch but it's not that bad. I would reccomend getting it pulled. Dentists are professionals... they know what they are doing. It doesn't really hurt after it's over because ur mouth is totally numb. Just relax and try not to drool. Good luck!!!

well first if you don't get it pulled out then the tooth will keep on pushing and it will start hurting. Two it is not going to hurt i have had a tooth removed before. three only for a little bit. do be afraid you should be happy that they r helping u!!!

1- it will hurt but will probably eventually come out it may make cause problems to your teeth (braces are worse)
2- yes numbing things are normally used and i am very glad about that, at my dentist if my they are going to give me a numbing shot the give me gell (like the kind a baby going threw teething gets) the needle doesn't really hurt just like a little pinch. It isn't very big either just little IT DOESN'T HURT
3- your tooth shouldn't really hurt that much the worst thing is when the numbing thing doesn't come off and you are drooling. Be careful not to bite your cheeks because sometimes you don't feel it and don't know. i ask my dentist for gause so that i can bite on those (it took me a while to figure that it wasn't gum just my cheeks) and if it is bad they usually give pain killers
IT REAL ISN'T THAT BAD you will be fine
and if you get really lucky they may let you pick from the treasure box (just kidding but you will be fine0
It really doesn't hurt and good luck :}

The baby tooth needs to be removed; sometimes they ar over retained and need help from your dentist. this will prevent over crowding of your teeth. 2. usually the dentist places a topical gel where he's going to numb so that the injection will not hurt I call this sleepy juice, once the area is numb it should not hurt baby teeth are easy to remove because the root is short. 3. it should hurt at all but if it does mom can give you some pain medication but i honestly don't think you need it. I've seen kids eat ice cream after wards. no pain for a week in anything probably not even 30 minutes.

Baby teeth shouldn't hurt too much or at all for too long afterwards. Mine didn't. It's mainly wisdom teeth that people have that problem - eg the pain lasting a week.

The needle hurts a bit but not too much. They will usually inject you more than once for an extraction.

If you are really scared then ask (beforehand they have to arrange an anaesthetist if you are going to be knocked out) to have gas. I normally had gas for extractions as a minor.

You can also have it as a sedation dose which will be less costly but you won't get out of having injections that way.
