I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled out and all you can really do is give it time to heal. If you're taking the medicine that your dentist prescribed to you on time then that should help speed up the process. Bleeding and swelling is normal, just give it all time. :) Don't use straws, don't smoke or anything because the 'sucking' isn't good for it and could open that part up again.

I had all mine taken out a few years ago. you pretty much have to wait it out. Just don't use straws, it can cause an infection or something.

You should not be using any gauze now, this may make you continue to bleed by keeping the clot from forming.

Remove the gauze and gently rinse with warm salt water. You can swish the water gently, just not vigorously yet.

Look at your post-op care sheet, this will give you instructions to follow until you are seen at your next appointment.

The blood mixed with saliva will always look like a lot more than it actually is. Yes, this is normal.

Additional information: The first 24 hours ice is used to keep the swelling down to a minimum. After the first 24 hours, a moist heat is needed. This can be from a damp, hot towel placed on both cheek areas.

The moist heat works by warming the muscles helping to get oxygenated blood flowing back into the surgical areas, helping to reduce the swelling and ease the discomfort. Don't use ice now; using ice post-op 24 hrs will offer no relief or reduction in swelling. You will be chilling the swollen tissue. Most all swelling will develop in the first 24 hours, then the moist heat is used to help the blood flow into the swollen areas, helping to reduce the inflammation and swelling caused by the traumatized tissue and bone.

the blood is normal
