What kind of dental floss is best?!

Question: My husband bought two kinds of floss and I have one upstairs and one downstairs so I use both regularly.

The one upstairs is really thick (I think it's Oral B) and it doesn't hurt as much as the one downstairs (Boots brand) which is regular floss and sometimes makes my gums hurt if I am not careful.

I wonder if the thick one does the same job as the thin one? Is there anything else I should know about floss, to get the most out of my daily routine?

It really depends on your teeth I have no space in between my teeth so I use Crest GLIDE original floss and I love it. If your teeth have space you could use a thicker floss but at our dental office we give Crest GLIDE and everyone seems to really like it and it's the only one I use i buy tons so I don't run out. And it doesn't hurt my gums!!!! So Take care of your teeth and gums and this was a good question!!!

Maybe the one downstairs isn't waxed. That makes it move more easily.

Colgate or Oral-B

idk i like johnsonjohnson the red candy tasting floss best

I asked my dentist this same question. His answer:

"The kind you use."
.

I like using floss picks. It has the floss on a plastic stick so you dont have to wrap it around your fingers. Its thin and slides easily if you buy the non-shred ones. And it makes flossing so much easier and faster!

Why don't you just call your dentist's office and ask to speak to the hygienist? She will have plenty of good information for you. I think her answer would be far more accurate than what you get from the general public. I'm sure of one thing though....you are one of the few people who really does floss regularly and you will enjoy better health for it no matter which floss you use! I'd say...use the one you like the most so you will continue doing it!

all the flosses are almost identical quality wise.. and the difference between the thickness is usually not very significant .. however there are two things to be considered ...

1.. the spaces present between your teeth.. if you have teeth which are very tightly placed... or crowded.. then using a thin floss would help you ... if u have spaces between tooth then u can use a thin or thick floss.. so generally purchasing a thin floss will help in all the cases ..

2. the technique of flossing.. using any floss.. oral b , colgate .. etc etc will be of no use .. until and unless u know the proper way to use floss and brush the teeth .. find out the proper way of flossing and brushing from your dentist the next time u go there of just google " how to floss correctly"

i hope this helps u))

I think it's a matter of personal preference and how closely "situated" your teeth may be. Some people have slightly more space between each tooth than others (although it may not be readily visible) which makes it easier to floss. I like the thin, waxed, minty dental floss (Oral B/Johnson & Johnson). You may have to try several brands until you find one that doesn't cause pain or bleeding of the gums.
