Soda? Tea? Juice? which is best for your teeth?!

Question:

Soda? Tea? Juice? which is best for your teeth?

So I can't just drink water all day long. Sometimes I like Iced Tea (from a Mix), sometimes Soda, and sometimes juice. I used to think that juice was the best for your mouth, but I recently found out that the citric acid is HORRIBLE for your teeth. And that Orange Juice is actually worse than Coke for your teeth.

If you are a dental professional can you tell me which of the three would be the best choice to drink, with the least damage to my teeth?

Answers:

Here is what I teach my patients:
1) the number one cause of tooth decay, in this country, is liquid sugar.
2) liquid sugar is: pop, juice, flavored waters, sports drinks, Kool-aid, etc.
3) try to drink water, milk, tea, coffee, or anything that is sweet ed artificially. The best artificial sweetener is sucrolose, (Splenda). It is made from sugar but does not promote tooth decay.
4) remember that milk is about 40% sugar! You MUST rinse your mouth with water after drinking milk if you are not going to have time to brush your teeth.
5) coffee and tea should not have sugar in them.

I hope this helps. Dentist are currently SHOCKED that our citizens seem hell bent on destroying their teeth with liquid sugar!!!

PS: of course, candy, mints, cough drops, cookies, etc. are also high in sugar
