No, coordinate appointments with your ortho and regular dentist these steps. 1. have the arch wire removed upper/lower with your orthodontist. 2. go to your regular dentist and have a hygienist do your cleaning 3. return to your orthodontist and have them put back your wires. never have a cleaning done with the wires on because you will not get a good cleaning.
If you aren't due to have your braces removed, then they will just clean around them
Why don't you ask? I am sure they would tell you they are removing your braces. They just clean around your braces and have special tools for cleaning braces.
I don't know what the otehr answers are saying..but I had braces for a long time and just got them off last year.
They clean your teeth with all of it on, they do not have to take any of it off.
They use a baking soda type spray cleaning, it's not too compfortable ,but it cleans really well!

There are a couple of ways to do a cleaning with braces. The most common way is just to remove the arch wire. Your regular dentist or hygienist will remove the arch wire and put it back on after the cleaning. Removing an arch wire isn't a big deal. It just like when you get your elastics changed at the orthodontist.
The other method was mentioned by the above poster, using a cavitron which is a tool kind of like a to a mini-pressure washer. Using ultrasonic vibrations and a cleaning mixture it cleans around the brackets and arch wires.
Either method works and neither is a big deal.
PS. No, they won't remove your bands :)
