Braces....A LOT OF Q's!!!! 10 pts!!!!!!!?!

Question: I've had my bottom braces for 11 months and top for 7 or 8 months. I got my elastcs on Feb. 25 (yowzers :-P) I'm only supposed to have my braces on for 18 months. That would mean I get them off this fall But I heard when you get elastics you are in the last phase of your treatment...does this mean I'll get them off sooner? Also, does it hurt to get them off, I have really sensitive teeth, like i can't bite ice cream, or let the water from a really cold water fountain touch my teeth. Lastly, before I got my elastics my back molars couldnt touch on one side, I was religously wearing them until about 3 weeks ago and since then my jaw seems to almost be perfect, like all my molars bitm normally (or at leats what seems better than it was before). But then 2 days ago I started wearing them 24/7 again (or 24/2 in this case) and it seems to have gotten uneven and weird again..whats up with that???

TY in advance....no stupid answers like well i dont know...please! details=best answer=10 pts

I had braces for 18 months. That included expansion and bracets. My bottom jaw is larger than my top one. Now i have retainers, but i still have to wear elastics. my orthodontist says it takes 15 hours for your teeth to start moving and 3 minutes to lose what you worked so hard for. Sometimes they are the last phase... sometimes not. it doesn't hurt at all to get them off and i can't stand to bite ice cream or even drink water that is extremely cold and i couldn't even feel them =) You will be fine and you will have a gorgeous smile when you are all finished!!!

I had elastics way before they even talked to me about getting them off. Just make sure to wear them constantly. I didn't, and it took them a year longer to get them off. Getting braces off does not hurt AT ALL, and my teeth weren't sensitive either.

I have no clue,i dont know what elastics are.I have had braces for 8 months now on top and bottom and i know what you mean when u say that u have sensitive teeth because i do too.It hurts really bad when really cold stuff hits your teeth. One time my brother shoved a snowball in my mouth when i wasnt lookin...imagine how my teeth falt then!

It sorta hurts when they're taking off your braces. You know what they do? They get a firm grip on the bracket with a small tool, then snap it off. It's scary 'cause you're just laying there, WAITING for the snap, 24 - 28 times. It's kinda tough on the lil' front teeth and the back ones are annoying because they're way back there. Then afterwards, they scrape any leftover glue, and book you for a whitening appointment I think. I'm not sure because my teeth were already white enough

Good luck :]

you get esastics in steps you may get them for a few monthes and then where you have a few monthes in betwen having them. this is so your mouth adjusts little by little and not to fast or it can damage the gums and jaw bone. If you wear your elastics often you will get your braces of sooner.

I had braces years ago and I can tell you that having elastics does not necessarily mean that you are gonna get them off early. It just means that they are going to help get your teeth where they need to be. Also, if your ortho tells you to wear them a certain number of hours a day...do it. If you do and then stop (as you said you did), your teeth will shift again. You need to keep wearing them until your ortho says it's ok to stop. This will make sure they are stable without the elastics. Same goes for the retainer when the braces are done...that will permanently stabilize your teeth.
As for getting them taken off...doesn't hurt at all. It feels really wierd, especially on the back ones, and your lips will feel puffy for a while afterward. No pain though...rest assured. :)
