Why does my jaw keep popping?!

Question: My jaw has just recently (within the last 4 months or so...) been continuing to act up it doesn't make the noise thats usual connected to a jaw popping though... It almost feels as if it's sliding from side to side... my mom has had her stick open so it could be a family thing... but my pops whenever i yawn or chew food and is just generally uncomfortable no matter where it's lying... My best friend has TMJ and i haven't really asked her too much about it but her jaw seems to act a lot different then mine.... is it still likely to be TMJ or something else completely???

Well ill give you my own personal experience.I've had TMD/TMJ for 3 years now. When i started getting signs of this i had the same thing you have know, my jaw would just pop and feel very unconfortable. Then months after my jaw started getting lock, basically i couldnt move it at all when this happened so i had to unlock it myself, right after that the pain became so intense that they had to send me to a maxilofacial surgeon. He was going to do surgery on me,but it cost 15,000 dollars and my insurance didnt cover this.Desperate i started looking for other doctors that did treatments without surgery and well i found a doctor. He has done miracles for me! Im on a 2 year treatment now with appliances,1 for the day and night. Before you go wear a night guard go find a dentist, not just any dentist but one that specializes on this type of disorders because most dentists wont cure this.Sometimes nightguards will worsen the problem, this is why i tell you to go visit the doctor before you get a night guard. The dentist i was with before sent me a night guard and that would only make my pain worse.Of course if you just started with TMJ and you grind your teeth at night this could help but you dont know that yourself. They will do an x-ray and tell you what's going on.In my case they sent me an MRI because they had to see the tissue instead of just the bone.Trust me what i went thru i wouldnt want anyone else to go thru so go get help before it's too late and the pain becomes severe.

Sounds like TMJ . you should seek medical attention so your condition doesn't worsen.

TMJ would be my guess.....have it checked ot if you can

Just go to a dentist and get it checked out - I was diagnosed with TMJ after experiencing ear pain with no reason. The dentist made me a night guard, and it's alleviated 99% of the problem. Apparently I grind my teeth at night, and it get's my jaw off kilter.

Best wishes!

Gosh, I've had mine for years and years -- just call a local dentist and ask them, and also ask about payment plans.

It could simply be nervousness on your part. When under strain from a social situation or outside influence, most people will be under excess worry about something new in their lives. There may also be biting of your tongue or inner skin in the mouth.

Try sitting back and thinking over your situation --- physically relax your jaw --- then work it a bit. It works for me!
