I'm having 2 molars removed, I have to have an IV & I've never had one anyon!

Question:

I'm having 2 molars removed, I have to have an IV & I've never had one anyone have any personal experience?

I'm not allowed to eat after 9 and then I can't having liquids after 1:30. I'm having my twelve year molars removed to make room for my wisdom teeth and the oral surgeon said this was "easy". I asked how much this would hurt and he said it depends on my tolerance for pain. I can tolerate pain pretty well but I have to have an IV to put me to sleep and I've never had one before. Has anyone had this done? Can anyone tell me how much an IV hurts? Thanks.

Answers:

If you've ever had blood drawn before you'll be able to relate to having an IV placed. When they put in your IV, it'll feel like they're taking blood-a small pinch and that's it, they'll insert a needle covered by a thin plastic catheter, when the IV is in place they remove the needle and only the catheter remains in your vein. The only discomfort you may feel immediately is when they inject saline or your medications as they'll probably feel cold in your veins. It's a tingly sensation. After it's removed you may have some bruising and soreness depending on where it was placed. It's really not that bad, you'll do fine, good luck!
