What are the side affects of gingivitis?!
Question:
What are the side affects of gingivitis?
Answers:
Your gums may be red or swollen, but not in all cases - esp. if you are a smoker. You will probably not have pain. If gingivitis is left untreated it will turn into periodontal disease. Gingivitis is an infection of the gums whereas periodontal disease is a disease that causes breakdown of the bone under the gums. When the bone breaks down it is like taking out a piece of the foundation of your house and expecting the house not to sag in that area. You can get rid of gingivitis with a thourough cleaning to remove tartar and plaque and then keep the gums healthy with brushing and flossing. The bone damage from perio cannot be fixed and will cause you to have a much more difficult time keeping the gums healthy and often leads to more cavities at a later time. Hope that helps,
