Answers:

Good, bad, and ugly- here goes!!

Good- When you're all done, your teeth will be straight. This means that your smile will look GREAT!! Your teeth will meet properly and you'll be better able to chew your food properly.

Bad- The whole point of braces is to move the basically stationary. Your teeth weren't meant to move, so when you get your braces tightened (every 2-4 weeks), your mouth will be tender. You won't want to be eating any stakes that day!! There are things that the doctor will recomend you not eat- they either cause problems with the brackets that are glued to your teeth or they're hard to clean out (brushing). Also, they're pretty dang expensive!!

Ugly- If you make a big deal about it, so will other people. If you don't make a big deal of it, chances are that nobody will even notice, or even care!

This is the process- The orthodontist will place some rubber rings between your back teeth on each side. These spacers will make room for metal bands that will be placed around your back teeth next. There will also be metal or porcelain brackets glued to the outside of each tooth, and a wire will be placed into the grooves on each wire, going around your mouth- one on top and one on bottom. This wire will be held in by small o-rings. At each visit, the doctor will put either a new wire or new small o-rings on, sometimes both. Gradually, the shape of the wire will be adjusted to pull and push your teath into proper alignment.

There are things you shouldn't eat or have in your mouth while you have braces- some can cause the brackets to pull off your teeth, others are just a pain to try to clean out from around the brackets and from under the wire. Some of these foods are corn-on-the cob, apples (whole), carmel, popcorn.

Just be careful, do what the orthodontist suggests, and in a couple years, you'll have a beautiful smile!
