Waterpik??!

Question: I'm going to be getiing braces in awhile, and I want to get a Waterpik to use instead of flossing. I was looking at the corded and cordless ultra models. I just wanted to know which one was better, or easier, ect. Thanks!

There is a possibility the orthodontist will give you one. It depends on where you go, but mine gave me a cordless one, and it works pretty well.
One thing you need to keep in mind, is you still need to floss!!!!!!!! The waterpik just vibrates and loosens the plaque, but you need something to actually pull the plaque away. Hopefully the orthodontist will give you shred-resistant floss for you to use. Otherwise, you can find shred-resistant floss in the stores.
If you're going to a good orthodontist, he/she should be able to prepare you and tell you how to take care of your teeth. The top things to remember are
-try to stay away from soda and other acidic drinks
-brush brush brush!
-use that waterpik and FLOSS
-use mouth rinse
it's also recommended not to chew gum, but if you really need to (especially with achy teeth after monthly adjustments) chew half a piece of sugarless gum.

It's probably just a matter of personal choice, I think they both work about as well and they're both easy to use. Personally I would go with the cheaper one.

When I had a waterpik and braces, I used the corded model and it worked great. Just make sure your water pressure isn't too high, especially after getting the braces put on. Oh, and it's still wise to floss every once in a while to get what the waterpik can't.

Cordless is always handy. But like all cordless appliance the battery will sooner or later give out. Turn the pressure as low as it will go so you don't blow out the braces.

Less danger of electrocution with the cordless model. Water-piks are great, but be careful to set it really low and get some guidance from your dentist about how to use it so you don't tear up your gums.

You need to get a threader and floss as often as you can manage, though. Use a plaque-dissolving mouthwash.

No point in having straight teeth if they are all nasty and rotten.

I just bought a cordless/rechargable waterpik for about $30 at Kmart. Works just like it should. I love it and really don't know why I didn't get one sooner. You just have to keep in mind to push the off button to take it out of your mouth to spit. Otherwise, you wash your face at high pressure and the bathroom door.
