Dentists: I have a filling that keeps falling out?!

Question: I have a cavity on the back, right, bottom side of my mouth (facing out) and it is on the side of my tooth by the gum line and the filling will NOT stay in.

A few months ago, my filling fell out. This filling had lasted about 6-7 years. I went into a chain dentist office (as a new patient) and they refilled it. Two and a half months later the filling fell out again. I went back in to have it refilled. Three weeks later, it fell out AGAIN.

My mom insisted that I see a new dentist, so I've made an appointment.

My question is, is there anything I can tell this new dentist that will help him/her better treat me? Is there anything I can do that will help this new filling stay in? Also, is this common? I can't find very much information on this problem.

Hello, there are four reasons you can attribute to why a filing falls out: (1)..the fist and most obvious, you had an "unskilled" dentist. (2) The dentist kept using a brand of filing material that doesn't work well, (3) the filing cavity wasn't properly prepared and (4) you could have a health issue such as being a Diabetic that makes the teeth soft in some cases therefore making it easier for a filing to dislodge.....So the reality boils down to this...the issue is either number 4, or a combination of 1,2 and 3....Good luck and I wish you well.

This filling shoul stay in place w/out a problem. You 're doing good by going to another doctor, it might be the materials been use by the doctor. Stay away from eating hard things with that side of the mouth.

is it the white or the silver looking kind? the white ones r very problematic. just good for aesthetic purposes. silver ones last longer.
