Tooth removal aftercare!?!

Question: I just had a molar taken out, and I'm a bit of a hypochondriac when it comes to teeth! Just wondering what I should be doing in the next few days, with regards to eating and drinking.

Also the teeth around the one that was removed are feeling quite sore, is that just because of the movement involved in pulling teeth out? I have over-crowding in my mouth, if that affects anything.

Last thing! Will any of the surrounding teeth migrate towards the empty spot? I have a fixed retainer in the middle of my lower jaw and I'm wondering if thats going to be affected.

Thanks for bearing with me so far, and thanks to any answerers!

Hey there. Did the dentist/oral surgeon who did the surgery for you give you a piece of paper with directions on it. Read the directions or call their office and ask any questions you have.
In general, you should eat soft foods, avoid chewing using that part of the mouth, drink plenty of fluids, rinse with salt water gently if directed, and get plenty of rest. Avoid strenuous exercise (and things like alcohol) for a few days to let the body heal--you don't want to make the gums start bleeding.
Don't worry about teeth moving. After your mouth has healed, you can make an appointment to see your orthodontist and ask them this. Meanwhile brush all the other teeth in your mouth really well and keep the retainer clean and wear it as usual (unless the dentist told you not to).
If you're in pain, a good pain-killer is Advil/Motrin (generic name is ibuprofen)......tylenol may also work well. If it's ALOT of pain, call the dentist as soon as possible.

I recently had one removed as well. dont use mouthwash for the next few days either they have alcohol in them. dont eat anything hard for 48 hours. and avoid brushing the area for 48 hours as well. yes the other teeth will hurt my whole jaw hurt for weeks after. depending on ur age, if you are younger your teeth may move up but if you are older there is a slighter chance of that happening.
