Last dental question...?!
Question:
Last dental question...?
Does anyone know if someone has rotting right along the gum line, like half of the tooth, can they fill that, or is a root canal required??
Thanks!

I am going to the dentist today!!!
Answers:
This problem is known as Root Decay
Great question---yes it can be repaired, most of the time--but not usually very easy to restore. They remove the decay underneath the gumline and if the decay is very deep, then they also perform a root canal therapy--to treat the infected nerve of the tooth.
If the decay is too far down, underneath the gumline, then sometimes your general dentist would refer you to a Periodontist who can be helpful in restoring the decay, as he/she would flap the gum, scrap away the decay and remove it completely and then fill the tooth---also may need to do the root canal---not all Periodontist are trained in performing root canal therapies---
If the decay was too severe and the dentist thought that the tooth had been decayed all the way through, but you can't see it w/your eye---they would know once they got into the surgery---then they would tell you the bad news, and of course then reccomend the tooth be extraced---It all just depends on how sever it is.
How did you find out about the 'rotting along the gum line, like half of the tooth' problem? Did a dentist or hygienist tell you about the problem? If so, did they take x-rays of the area? And did they tell you it was treatable?
Good luck--if you have not been to the dentist---go, and hopefully they can salvage the tooth---This type of decay can go VERY FAST-- so act quickly and see your dentist.
Do a great job at brushing, flossing and avoid acidic drinks like sodas and lemon aids. Candies, cough drops are not a good idea---the sugars in your mouth for prolonged period of time can contribute to this current problem.
Take care of your gorgeous smile---do something about this early---before it is too late.
Sincerely, Tina
