Do I have to remove the bands/elastics on my braces when brushing?!

Question: Do I? I have a printed copy of instructions on how to brush my teeth with braces on, and it says to remove elastic...which I assumed to be the colored thing around the brackets. Is it?

No, the elastics that your instructions are referring to are the rubber bands that you'll probably have as a part of your treatment later on. The colored ties that hold your wire into your brackets are something different. You shouldn't remove them because you won't be able to put them back on and they need to be there in order for your braces to do their job. Those will get removed and replaced at each adjustment appointment. Hope that helps!

NO don't remove them. DUH ...thats the way to move your teeth is from the pressure the bands and elastics provide. You get directions for cleaning from the orthodontist READ the material instead of asking people on the net????

omg pls. do NOT remove those. your dentist took at least 5 min of his time to put those on for you. just how long're you gonna take to put them on yourself?
