I have a sharp pain in a tooth when I chew... what could it be?!

Question:

I have a sharp pain in a tooth when I chew... what could it be?

I got a filling in that tooth about a month ago. No sensitivity to hot foods or drinks. Very slight sensitivity to cold. No problems until today. Woke up and had breakfast, and when I chew with this tooth I have a sharp pain. But when I don't chew I have no pain at all.
I will make a dentist appointment soon to get it checked out. But I would like to ease my mind until then if it's possible.
Anyone know what could be the problem and solution?

Answers:

I just went to my dentist this afternoon for the same thing! What has probably happened is that your bite is too high. Sometimes, when a dentist fills a tooth, the filling material is not filed down enough. When this happens, you'll get a sharp pain when you chew. I had the same problem, it only hurt when I would be eating. I went in this afternoon, the dentist took an X-ray just to make sure something else wasn't wrong, and then she filed the filling down. It was easy!! No shots, no pain, and I was done in about 5 minutes. I do have to go back in a couple of weeks to get it looked at again though. I left mine for about 2 months and the bite being off had cause some of the tissue under my gum to become irritated. Go ahead and make an appointment soon. It won't take long at all and there is no pain involved!
