They seem to be slightly behind, this is because 2nd teeth are bigger stronger teeth. This is why children who have a mixture of 1st and 2nd teeth look as though they have a mouth full of tombstones. The new teeth fill the gaps left by the milk teeth.
Usually around the age of 7, but not always - my partners 37 & still has two milk teeth.
If the baby teeth are still hanging on when the new ones come through then the new one is usually behind. If the baby teeth come out early and the new ones aren't ready yet they sometimes come through a bit crooked. They usually sort themselves out if not a dentist might offer a brace at a much later date.

Sometimes the adult teeth are misplaced and will grow through without the baby ones coming out - making the child look a bit like a shark! The canines can often come through high up in the gum and so will come through in front of the existing baby ones.
there is no solid rule - sometimes the adult ones are placed in front of where the baby ones were and sometimes behind - sometimes they come through at an angle.
